Franche-Comte will continue to attract British holidaymakers as it offers a slice of what the hidden areas of France are all about, a tourism official has said.
Tourist hotspots such as the Eiffel Tower in Paris have long been destinations that have caused people to flock to France, but according to Cecile Ambacher, press relations and promotion executive at Comite Regional du Tourisme de Franche-Comte, the country also has several less well-known locations that are equally as attractive.
Speaking of Franche-Comte, Ms Ambacher commented that the area is ideal for tourists who prefer to head off the beaten track as it is traditional and offers good food and excellent value for money. She added that nature in the region "is at its best" for activities such as walking, bird watching and cycling.
According to Eurotunnel's half-yearly results - which were published on July 19th - the Eurostar transport service recorded an increase of six per cent in passenger numbers over the course of the first six months of 2010 in comparison to last year.
This could be a clear sign that France is becoming more popular with travellers following the global economic downturn and Ms Ambacher is anticipating an upturn in visitor numbers to France-Comte in the coming months as it is relatively easily accessible via the Eurostar.
Meanwhile, she added that holidaymakers can enjoy "beautiful and peaceful" scenery with mountains, lakes and waterfalls all present at the resort.
Anyone considering visiting Franche-Comte this year should think about the possibility of taking out
