Those who visited South Africa recently may have been inspired by the 2010 World Cup.
Sports fans who enjoyed the recent World Cup tournament may have used the event as inspiration to visit the host nation.
The backdrop to the 2010 Fifa World Cup has proven popular among travellers that have since jetted off to the destination, according to Tourism Cape Town.
Some 90 per cent of those taking part in a survey claimed they would return to South Africa after arriving during the football competition - and 16 per cent said the matches were "amazing".
Alan Winde, Western Cape minister for finance, economic development and tourism, said it was expected that many sporting enthusiasts would return after the World Cup final and the survey revealed many made plans to go back "there and then".
"It was always said that the [competition] would provide Cape Town, the Western Cape and South Africa with an unparalleled opportunity to showcase the destination to new visitors and new tourism market," confirmed Mr Winde.
However, it could be said that the continent has much more to offer travel insurance policyholders than ball games and many people arriving this summer "were overwhelmed" to discover how friendly the local people are. Many more were blown away by the scenery and others may have sampled the wine regions and other tourist hotspots.
Indeed a contributor to the Sydney Morning Herald stated recently that the region is great for thrill-seekers, as the writer participated in an exhilarating bungee jump in Oribi Gorge, scuba diving off the coast of Amanzimtoti, safari and lion-spotting in Zululand and quad biking in a banana plantation.
