The failure of Scottish airline Flyglobespan has resulted in thousands of people being unable to get home from countries such as Egypt and Portugal.
The importance of taking out
travel insurance with airline failure cover has been highlighted by the collapse of Scottish airline Flyglobespan.
It went into administration on Wednesday (December 16th), resulting in thousands of holidaymakers being stranded in countries such as Portugal, Spain, Egypt and Cyprus, according to the BBC.
While those who flew with the airline as part of a package holiday are likely to be covered under the ATOL scheme, travellers who only purchased flights from Flyglobespan may need to check that their
holiday insurance includes cover for carrier failure.
Flyers who paid for their flights with their credit card may be able to put in a claim with the company that issued their card.
In a statement on its website, Flyglobespan says that all of its flights have been cancelled with no prospect of rescheduling them.
"The [Flyglobespan] companies are unable to offer any refund to customers in respect of cancelled flights, holidays or accommodation," it states.
It is believed that 4,500 people are currently stranded abroad as a result of the collapse, while 800 jobs are likely to be threatened.
