Look into visiting a festival when planning a winter break, an expert advises.
Going abroad for a winter holiday can be the ideal way to escape the British cold - and visiting a festival while doing so could make for an interesting break, it has been suggested.
According to James Bainbridge, author of a Lonely Planet guide to festivals, such events include the Festival in the Desert in Mali, which offers up a feast of African music.
Elsewhere, travellers may also want to check out the Lake of Stars event in Malawi, Koneisto in Helsinki or the Creole festival in the Seychelles.
"Just because we are going into the cold winter months in Britain, it doesn't mean that the rest of the world shuts down," Mr Bainbridge remarked.
Visiting a foreign festival may be particularly interesting to those who were planning on attending the now sold-out 2010 Glastonbury Festival.
Travel insurance may be advisable when going to any festival, as a study conducted by Lovebox Weekender earlier this year found that music fans are likely to take hundreds of pounds worth of possessions with them to such events.
