Falls in hotel prices "is good news for travellers"
A fall in hotel prices could mean good news for European travel insurance holders looking for a last-minute bargain, according to an accountancy firm.
"Hotels are being more competitive in terms of the prices that they are setting and therefore that is good news for travellers," explained Robert Bernard, company partner responsible for hotel consultancy at PKF.
The Hotel Price Index from Trivago reported in July that compared to the same period last year, hotels are an average of seven per cent cheaper in July 2009.
In some top European destinations, it found that hotels were as much as 25 per cent less expensive and prices have decreased or remained at the same level as last year in 38 of 50 major European cities.
However, Mr Bernard went on to say that it is not only the hotel prices that travellers need to consider when booking their holidays as the exchange rate will affect the price of items once you arrive at your final destination.
