Taking a river cruise could be a great way to see Asia's hidden corners, according to one expert.
River cruises can be a good way of seeing the "real" Asia, according to one tour operator.
Visit Asia managing director Hung Nguyen recommends river cruises for those who want to explore lots of different destinations in one trip.
He says that they offer an insight into the everyday lives of the local population and provide more depth than a standard ocean cruise.
Popular Asian cruise destinations include China, Cambodia, Vietnam and Malaysia, Mr Nguyen reveals.
Commenting on Malaysian cruises down the Rajang River, he adds: "You cruise along tribal villages and you can see the river of life. It is very interesting, because that is the way to see the real country."
Those considering a river cruise holiday in Asia might want to consider looking for
travel insurance that will cover them for potential events such as injury and illness.
According to the Pacific Asia Travel Association, tourist arrivals in Asia-Pacific destinations are expected to rise by 2.7 per cent annually for the next three years.
