Ski insurance is a must for those heading to the slopes this winter, experts say.
Britons planning to go on a ski holiday in the next few months should ensure they have the right
winter sports insurance in place.
This is according to experts speaking to the Independent, who say that going skiing without adequate
travel insurance can result in some hefty bills for those unlucky enough to injure themselves while abroad.
Alison Patrick, head of
travel insurance for AXA, indicates that it can be "very expensive" to pay for medical treatment overseas without the proper
ski insurance.
For example, the cost of airlifting an injured skier from a European ski resort back to the UK can cost more than £4,000 - an expense that is not covered by the European Health Insurance Card.
The most important thing to do is check the level of cover offered by an insurance policy before setting off, comments Betony Garner, spokeswoman for the Ski Club of Britain.
"You've got to look at the small print and know exactly what you're covered for," she warns.
The Foreign & Commonwealth Office recently launched a campaign to advise skiers of the dangers of taking to the slopes after consuming alcohol.
Many
travel insurance policies do not offer cover for injuries sustained while under the influence of alcohol.
