Sailing enthusiasts looking for challenging waters on their holiday head to Scotland, an expert has said.
Travellers keen on sailing are looking to destinations such as Scotland for more thrilling boating sessions, according to one expert.
Tony Bennett, director of Sail Scotland, said that such holidaymakers tend to start off in the Mediterranean, but head to more challenging waters like those around Scotland once they have gained several years of sailing experience.
"If you want sheltered waters, there's the Firth of Clyde, where [there are] plenty of marinas, anchorages, moorings and lots of places to eat and drink and enjoy yourself," he explained.
Mr Bennett added that while Scotland's waters vary in terms of conditions depending on the location and can be harder to navigate than others due to the weather, they generally appeal to sailing enthusiasts wanting to test their skills.
Holidaymakers looking to undertake sailing activities while on a UK or foreign break may need to double check the terms of their
travel insurance to ensure such pursuits are covered.
Some policies may only cover pleasure sailing within internationally recognised territorial waters and may exclude competitive sailing, ocean boating or sailing in international waters.
Even if you’re travelling within the UK, holiday insurance from Direct Travel Insurance is still a sensible purchase as the expense of dealing with issues on a holiday can be costly in any country.
