People wanting to avoid any possible disruption to their flights this summer should consider taking a self-drive holiday, an expert has suggested.
Self-drive holidays could be the answer for people wanting to avoid any chance of having their break disrupted by the ongoing problems being caused by the Icelandic volcanic cloud, an expert has said today (June 1st).
Drifting plumes of ash have had an impact on thousands of flights across Europe over the last six weeks or so, leaving many people facing long delays or cancellations of their travel arrangements. Also, worker strikes at major airlines have played a part in the chaos.
However, Jane Bolton, managing director of mountain holiday specialist Erna Low, said that not wanting to risk flying to mainland Europe from the UK should not stop holidaymakers making a trip abroad this
summer.
"Volcanic ash clouds and airlines strikes have shaken plans of a guaranteed
summer getaway and while many may be considering the increasingly popular staycation, they may not realise just how easy it can be drive to the continent," she said.
Ms Bolton added that driving to the Alps from London takes around eight hours, meaning that a skiing break at Europe's largest mountain range would not be severely affected by not flying there.
People considering a trip to Europe this
summer should take out
travel insurance before leaving the UK.
