Cruises now represent the fastest-growing sector of the travel industry, according to one expert.
Cruising has become so popular it is now the top sector in the travel industry in terms of growth.
This is according to World Travel Market chairman Fiona Jeffery, who said that the recession has failed to dampen demand for cruises and that more cruise liners are offering packages that are attractive to families and younger couples.
She explained: "Cruising was originally popular with the older holidaymaker, but as the capacity has grown so has the type of cruise holidays available."
Recent figures from the Passenger Shipping Association suggested that UK cruising will reach record levels next year, with 1.65 million people set to go on a cruise in the next 12 months - an increase of 6.5 per cent compared with 2009.
Travel insurance may be a good option for those looking for peace of mind when it comes to covering the cost of transport delays, lost luggage and medical treatment while away on a cruise.
