An industry expert has said that the northern town of Klaipeda offers a true reflection of Lithuanian life.
Kaunas has become an increasingly popular destination for Brits seeking a cost-effective weekend away in recent years, but to experience true Lithuanian culture tourists should head to the Sea Fiesta in the northern town of Klaipeda.
That is the view of the Lithuanian National Tourism Office (LNTO), which claims that the marine festival offers a real glimpse into the traditional way of life in the Eastern European nation.
The fiesta - which takes place between July 30th and August 1st - will see more than 100 events and festivities organised in the town, including concerts, fairs and ceremonies of seamen, according to Augusta Jaudegyte, director of the LNTO.
Meanwhile, the town also offers an ideal location for a longer holiday as it possesses something for everyone. For those looking to relax in the sun, there are stretches of white-sand beaches, while the more active of holidaymakers may prefer to take a stroll through the region's idyllic pine forests.
Klaipeda also has a range of clubs, pubs, cafes and restaurants to cater for all tastes, Ms Jaudegyte said.
"With distinctive architecture that is quite unique in Lithuania, influenced by the styles of its northern neighbours, it offers its visitors a delightful chance to explore a small but very cosy old town," she added.
A study published earlier this month by TripAdvisor revealed that more than three-quarters - 76 per cent - of all British people are planning to take a
summer holiday this year, while only 11 per cent are definitely not.
Anyone considering a trip to Lithuania this
summer should look into taking out
travel insurance before they leave the UK.
