More travellers are visiting Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos, according to one advisor.
Brett Warbrick, group marketing and product director at Round the World Experts, explained that these south-east Asian countries, as well as New Zealand and Australia, are proving popular.
Seeking guidance from someone who has seen these destinations before is the best way to achieve the experience you are looking for, he pointed out.
"Because they've often been to the places you want to go themselves, they can give you advice that you won't find in a brochure," Mr Warbrick continues.
Comfort levels, whether hostel beds or boutique accommodation is expected, as well as itinerary and budget restraints should be taken into consideration when organising such an excursion.
Researching the nations, their attractions and the experiences available can help potential travellers get the most out of their break to Vietnam or Cambodia, Mr Warbrick added.
His comments are based on research from STR Global which revealed an "overwhelming message" that south-east Asian regions are "in the midst of a strong recovery" after the effects of the recession.
Hotel bookings in Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines have increased and Jakarta and Bandung in Indonesia have also experienced growth during this period.
And it is not just hotels which are enjoying bigger profits - 11.9 per cent more passengers used air travel to reach their holiday destinations recently, according to figures from the International Air Transport Association.
Booking a trip to any of these locations should be preceded with the purchase of a sufficient
travel insurance policy.
