An industry expert has said that Amsterdam remains a popular haunt for weekend trips away.
Amsterdam is well-established as a favourite haunt for people looking for a weekend away and the Dutch capital's reputation among holidaymakers seems to remain just as strong in the aftermath of the recession.
With a wide and diverse range of cultural activities to sample, such as the famous Vincent Van Gogh museum, Anne Frank's house and a boat ride on the city's iconic canals, Amsterdam features something for everyone.
And recent statistics published by Hotels.com show that the city is enduringly popular as it yielded 95 per cent more searches on the website this year in comparison to 2009.
Ms Sandra Ishmael, head of press and public relations at the Netherlands Board of Tourism & Conventions, believes that the country's capital city offers the ideal mixture of culture, leisure and history for a perfect weekend away.
"Amsterdam is renowned for its welcoming nature, the abundance of canals and museums, 17th century houses and its relaxed atmosphere," she said.
As well as the traditional tourist hotspots such as the Van Gogh museum and Anne Frank's house, Ms Ishmael rates attractions such as the city's Jordaan district and the Waterplein Market as other must-see places during a visit there.
The capital is also a hive of activity over the
summer months, as its Gay Pride carnival takes place from August 1st to 8th while it also plays host to one of the world's largest maritime events later in August in the shape of the five-day Amsterdam SAIL festival from the 19th to the 23rd of the month.
Anyone considering a trip to Amsterdam in the coming months should take out
travel insurance before leaving the UK.
