An expert has suggested refresher lessons could be useful.
Experienced winter sports enthusiasts might not consider the need to hire an instructor, but one expert has suggested it could be a good idea.
Guy-Aime Hudry, head manager of the French Ski School, states that while beginners can benefit from learning new techniques, teachers can also impart knowledge and advice on which slopes are suitable for different levels, as well as other practical help.
Ski insurance policyholders could choose to book a lesson to discuss the weather conditions, quality of snow or even the best spots from which to admire the landscape.
Mr Hudry said: "Most of our ski instructors are local people, they live in the valley all of the year and they talk about summer, animals, habits and so on."
He added accomplished participants could use the professional to enjoy a route without worrying about getting lost or veering off-course, while they might also receive a few hints and tips about their technique.
People heading out on the piste for the first time would not dream of doing so without some support and the instructor can not only teach the basics, but issue guidance on which exercises will help prevent injury and how to start off on the right foot.
Individuals heading to resorts in France in coming days might be pleased to hear the Alps have had "several inches" of snow fall overnight on January 12th and more is expected throughout the coming week.
Before setting off, they might want to check their policy covers repatriation and emergency rescue by mountain teams, as well as any additional activities they might want to take part in when they are abroad.
