Places such as Spain, Portugal and Greece could offer outstanding value if the pound continues to improve, an industry expert has said.
The ongoing fiscal crisis in the eurozone may work to the benefit of British holidaymakers looking to travel to mainland Europe this
summer, an expert has said.
Destinations such as Spain, Portugal and Greece have long been favoured seasonal haunts for Brits seeking a week or two of relaxation or partying in the traditionally hot Mediterranean climate.
Research released yesterday (June 21st) shows that many people have recently decided to save money in other areas such as shopping and nights out in favour of saving their hard-earned cash in order to be able to afford a break away this
summer.
The Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banks' Recession Spending Impact report - which analysed spending habits and patterns of 3,000 consumers - compared and contrasted how peoples' attitudes to saving for holidays have changed during and after the global economic downturn.
It found that the average Brit now spends £905 on family holidays annually, as opposed to a figure of £872 when the country was in the depths of recession, despite the fact that they have cut their spending significantly in other areas.
Meanwhile, because of the fact that the UK's rate of inflation - which, as it has been steadily increasing has subsequently dragged the value of the pound down - begins to slow, Sharon Livingston, editor of thetravelmagazine.net, remarked that eurozone resorts may offer both bargain-hunting travellers and those looking for a little more luxury with the ideal solution.
"If the pound continues to improve, this will inspire more travel into the eurozone," she said.
Anyone heading to the continent for a
summer holiday this year should consider taking out
travel insurance before they leave home.
