There is a wide array of beautiful sights and sounds in Sri Lanka, one travel company says.
Sri Lanka is chock full of beautiful sights and natural wonders - and would-be tourists should not be overly worried about visiting the country.
This is according to Sue Gregory, director of the Unique Travel Company. She commented after the Foreign Office reviewed and reissued its advice for those heading to the island, which lies off the south-east coast of India and covers about 65,000 sq km.
The government retracted its warning against all travel to certain areas including Mullaittivu, Mannar, Kilinochchi and Vavuniya, and Ms Gregory said that although news reports about civil unrest may have put people off Sri Lanka, such events mainly took place in the northern part of the region which "even the majority of Sri Lankans don't go to".
Indeed, there is actually a wide array of things to do and places to visit, and overall it is a "fantastic" destination for tourists, the expert continued.
"You get dramatic hills and mountains that are over 8,000 ft. It's a very special place that is astonishingly beautiful.
"It has so much to offer, whether it is wildlife, culture, history or fantastic food."
Ms Gregory also noted the unusual topographical features in Sri Lanka, combining high hills among large coastal plains and dramatic landscapes.
Those who have sorted their
travel insurance and wish to start booking a trip to the country should note that official permission from the Sri Lankan ministry of defence is required before visiting Mullaittivu, Mannar, Kilinochchi and Vavuniya, as well as Jaffna.
