Wine tasting can be found in the area

There are plenty of sites to explore for wine lovers heading to the Champagne-Ardenne region.

Wine lovers heading to France on holiday should be sure to pay a visit to the Champagne-Ardenne region, where vineyards are plentiful.

Events run throughout the year, offering an insight into the fruitful wine and Champagne industry, but there are a number of special attractions planned during the summer for those interested in oenotourisme - which allows tourists to explore the world of these popular tipples.

A visit to the Dumont family estate in Champagne could be a great way to start a trip in France, with the site offering the chance to take part in blending some of the beverages.

With a half-day course, participants can explore a vast array of wines and discover more about each one before trying to create a successful Maison Dumont Champagne blend.

The medieval cellars of Chalons-en-Champagne might also be worth a visit, as the destination plays host to Gourmet Fridays, where people are invited into the historic caves to sample food and drink that follows a culinary theme.

Travel insurance policyholders and others can expect to spend around 90 minutes engrossed in the area's gastronomic heritage with plenty of tasty samples to try.

And people keen to learn all there is to know about the region's famous sparkling drink might be wise to head to Pre en Bulles in Trepail, which is the only Champagne museum of its kind in France.

They could even catch a glimpse of a special animation exhibition where the history of the area is told via a puppet show and visitors are encouraged to enjoy an interactive experience.
