The mix of cultures allows for a rich variety of food in the state.
One of the main attractions for people looking to head off on holiday abroad can be enjoying the different cuisines that are available in any destination. According to one expert, however, some of the most diverse and attractive menus can be found in the US state of Texas.
Diana Stevie, European tourism co-ordinator at Texas Tourism, says that because of the mix of cultures in Texas, there is an unbelievably wide ranging variety of options for people looking to add new flavours to their palate while travelling.
Those who have purchased travel insurance can find types of restaurant ranging from five-star Michelin style dining, to picnic tables and ordering from the back of the resurgent US food lorries.
"It's such a broad base of food that you get quite a diverse experience culinary-wise," added Ms Stevie.
She went on to say however that it is the border with Mexico and the close connections therein which makes for the most popular foods in the state, especially with overseas visitors.
"It's so diverse because of the cultural mix. People take their heritage and they blend it with their grandparent's heritage, so you have some really nice fusion cuisine which hints at tex mex."
Visitors to Texas can also enjoy such attractions as the Alamo, the building which was the setting for the battle of the same name in 1836, while shoppers can enjoy some much needed retail therapy at the San Marcos Outlet Malls. The most popular city to visit in the state is San Antonio.
