Egypt or the Canary Islands come recommended as a last minute holiday destination

Last minute holiday options are still available

Those who have yet to book their 2010 holiday might consider the Canary Islands or Egypt, after one expert's recommendation.

Are you yet to book your 2010 holiday? Then you might take one official's advice and search for the opportunities that are available in destinations such as the Canary Islands or Egypt.

Bob Atkinson, travel expert at Travelsupermarket.com, explained that there are still plenty of options that can be taken advantage of before the year is out.

Sun-worshippers should relinquish the idea of a last-minute jaunt to the Mediterranean during the autumn and winter months and consider Cape Verde, Morocco or Egypt.

Indeed, if a long-haul break is within reach, why not think about jetting off to the Maldives, the Middle East or South Africa? Mr Atkinson confirmed all-inclusive packages to these destinations "can work out very, very good value".

Holidays that take place from the second week of November until the week before Christmas provide "some of the best prices full stop", according to the expert - but anyone who can hold off until the beginning of next year might also discover a great deal thanks to increased availability and a lower demand for trips.

However, the festive period might not be the time when consumers have the most amount of spare cash, so anyone searching for an affordable option could do well to visit a country within the eurozone. Mr Atkinson again championed the Canary Islands thanks to their favourable climate and because "the euro has come back fairly well in the last year to be good value again".

Indeed, sticking to a budget while enjoying an excursion can be difficult for many travel insurance policyholders - and recent research from TravelSpec has shown that 94 per cent of British holidaymakers go approximately £500 over their limit during this time. That said, planning to spend a certain amount each day could help prevent having nothing on the last day.
