Eat on the cheap in Sydney

Category: Australasia Travel Insurance News
Sydney offers the chance to eat out cheaply, if you know where to look

The Sydney International Food Festival is coming up - and the Guardian has offered some tips for cash-stripped Brits looking to enjoy the city's cuisine on the cheap.

October will see the launch of this year's Sydney International Food Festival, a month-long extravaganza stuffed with all manner of food and drink.

For those looking to enjoy the city's cuisine without spending a packet, the Guardian has come up with a list of restaurants that offer quality food without a high price tag.

Among the newspaper's recommendations are Mamak - a Malaysian canteen specialising in roti dishes that seem to be put together in record time - and Mongers, an upmarket fish and chip outlet selling chargrilled octopus, chips with their skins left on and tempura prawns and vegetables, among other treats.

Visitors to Sydney might also want to try Bodega, which offers a fusion of Spanish and South American cuisine in the form of a tapas-like menu.

Travellers looking for something a bit sweeter could head to Cafe Chocolat, a patisserie where chocolate features in most of the available dishes, including a 'hamburger' made from chocolate macaroons.

Holidaymakers may want to take out travel insurance to cover any medical costs in the event of food poisoning - although the Sydney International Food Festival will feature delicacies cooked up by some of the best chefs in the city, there is always the possibility that certain things might not agree with sensitive stomachs.
