Rail passengers on the East Coast lines may be suffering winter travel misery as a result of ongoing weather conditions.
Train commuters in eastern parts of England and Scotland may be facing further travel misery as adverse weather conditions continue to cause disruption.
Engines operated by East Coast are subject to delays and cancellations - according to
Network Rail - and anyone looking to head past Edinburgh will have to make alternative arrangements as all services bound for Scotland are terminating in the capital.
Indeed, Inverness, Aberdeen and Glasgow are not currently being served by this operator although normal timetables are expected to be resumed over the weekend should the weather remain clear.
Revised timetables are in place for trains between Edinburgh and London Kings Cross, where an hourly service is currently running between the cities. A similar arrangement is in place between Leeds, Newcastle and London Kings Cross, which could mean travel insurance policyholders arranging onward journeys may have to alter their itinerary.
On Thursday 9th and Friday 10th of December, East Coast will run a similar service to that outlined above, but travellers could do well to stay abreast of updates on the National Rail and ScotRail websites.
Disruption in Scotland caused by heavy snowfall throughout the week is having an ongoing effect on many areas and Transport Scotland says drivers should be aware of abandoned and badly-parked cars in the wake of earlier incidents. Bus services have also been impacted as a result of these problems.
The organisation states that conditions are steadily improving, but the Met Office has kept flash warnings of severe or extreme weather in place today (December 8th), in preparation for widespread ice and a high risk of heavy snow.
