Downgrade to a 'boutique hostel' this summer
Some 36 per cent of Brits said they planned on downgrading their hotel while on holiday this year according to On the Beach - and a newspaper has compiled a list of the top boutique hostels to save travellers money.
With many cities in the non-eurozone offering fantastic value for money, the Guardian has listed its favourite boutique hostels in eastern Europe.
If heading to Poland, the Hostel Mleczarnia in Wroclaw is highly recommended and "you'd be hard pressed to find a single hotel in Poland that matches the antique interior", writes Benji Lanyado.
The hostels website says it is "elegant and inexpensive" with gramophones and stripped floorboards for decoration.
Riga in Latvia offers the City Lounge Hostel, recently opened in 2008. Built in a 100-year-old apartment building the owners claim it is the only designer hostel in the city.
In Prague, one of the first boutique hostels was Miss Sophie's and the rooms are spacious and stylish according to the paper.
The research carried out by On the Beach indicated 57 per cent of people in the UK said they would be heading to non eurozone destinations in 2009.
