Domestic breaks 'require holiday insurance'
Figures have revealed that more people are taking domestic breaks, but that they may not be protecting themselves with a UK travel insurance policy.
Research carried out by Axa found that 21 per cent of people who normally head overseas for their holiday will be switching to a break in the UK this year in order to save money.
However, the company noted that many travellers do not understand the importance of a travel insurance policy for a holiday in the UK.
"If you're only flying up to Scotland or taking a beach holiday in Cornwall, having travel insurance can help provide security and assistance," explained Alison Patrick, head of travel at the company.
The most common UK travel insurance claims the company receives include baggage loss, cancellation and curtailment, with the average cost for a short domestic holiday cancellation totalling £396.
Statistics published in July from the Post Office showed that 23 per cent of Britons were thinking about giving up travel insurance as a means of saving money.
Even if you’re travelling within the UK, holiday insurance from Direct Travel Insurance is still a sensible purchase as the expense of dealing with issues on a holiday can be costly in any country.
