Tourists interested in diving experiences might find the Philippines has just what they are looking for.
Anyone with a passing interest in scuba diving may have sampled the pursuit off the cost of a European beach resort - but one Asian nation could provide an even better experience.
Lito Mendoza, administrative assistant for the Philippines' Department of Tourism, explained that the underwater sport is popular among the coral landscapes between the islands.
Braver tourists could try swimming with sharks and those who prefer to keep their feet dry might prefer a spot of bird watching.
Mr Mendoza pointed out that some species of the winged creatures can only be found in the Asian group of islands - news which may encourage travellers to take up the hobby.
Indeed, anyone looking to book a flight to the Philippines should not find it too difficult, as figures from the Filipino tourism ministry show annual visitor numbers could increase by 12 per cent to 3.3 million this year.
Speaking to the Business Mirror, tourism secretary Alberto Lim, said the new government in the nation has put "a new shine on the country's brand before the world".
The administration is hoping to continue the positive increase in visitor numbers to the Philippines, which could improve services and accommodation options for tourists, as well as create employment opportunities for more permanent residents.
For anyone planning a holiday abroad, whether to the sun-drenched islands of east Asia or somewhere closer to home, it would be recommended to ensure a sufficient
travel insurance policy is in place, to help cover any costs should the worst happen during the trip.
