Malaga has plenty to offer people of all tastes and is also ideal for cruises, an expert suggests.
The cruising industry is really taking off in Malaga, with two passenger terminals now situated in the southern Spanish city.
Antonio Montejo Romero, a spokesman for Malaga City Tourist Board and Convention Bureau, says: "Cruising is crazy now."
Those who choose to depart from the destination can combine it with a visit to the area, taking a cheap flight from the UK to make the most of their holiday, Mr Montejo Romero suggests.
People tend to enjoy a cruise and then end their breaks "with an extension of cultural and heritage" on offer in Malaga, the representative adds.
While many people view the spot as a beach destination, there are plenty of other options to keep visitors entertained.
Mr Montejo Romero says: "There are 23 museums. Plenty of them are quite new because they were opened in the past years."
And much of the area can be explored either on foot or by using public transport, meaning it is highly accessible for those who choose to head there.
The Picasso Museum is a popular choice, although there are also five botanical gardens for those who want to stay outdoors.
Finca de la Concepcion is described by the expert as "the jewel of Malaga", as it is just 20 minutes out of the city centre, but is Europe's second-largest tropical garden.
Recent data from travelsupermarket.com found Spain was the top package holiday search in June 2011, with Turkey, Greece, USA and Egypt also making the list of the ten most popular queries.
