Forecasts suggest the UK could be heading towards another spell of cold temperatures.
Residents of the UK that have been pleased to see a respite from severe winter weather may encounter more problems and travel chaos if low temperatures return.
Meteogroup - a weather forecaster owned by the Press Association group - has stated next week (from Monday January 17th) may see a return to cooler conditions as the wind picks up from a north-east or eastern direction.
Rain and wind are expected before then, but the organisation adds: "We are still not even halfway through the meteorological winter," which could mean the UK is hit by another cold snap before spring sets in.
Slightly milder conditions - which have seen flooding occur in some areas of Britain - have prompted commentators to state the next season could arrive early, but Meteogroup firmly denies the claim, saying such an assertion is "vastly premature".
However, residents of Perth and Kinross in Scotland could see their travel plans made slightly easier during icy and snowy weather as the local council has created a mixture of salt that is apparently more simple to extract and could provide a great back-up resource for road maintenance.
Experts have established a method of removing sodium chloride from brine before mixing it with grit sand that is suitable for use in resilience vehicles such as gritters.
Councillor Ian Miller, leader of Perth and Kinross Council, explained that forward planning is the best way to manage severe weather and he would like to see resources made available to deal with whatever the coming months bring.
