Costa Rica and Peru 'will be popular destinations for solo travellers'
Destinations in Latin America such as Peru and Costa Rica are the "up and coming" places to take a trip as part of a singles group holiday, a travel writer has said.
According to Anthony Page, editor of solotravel.org, single travellers may wish to update their holiday insurance to cover trips to south America as part of an organised group trip.
For those with European travel insurance, he said: "I would say the main destinations ... would be places like Barcelona, Nice, Rome and Prague as there are lots of hostels catering to solos as well as activities."
Sharron Livingston, editor of The Travel Magazine, thought that the popularity of singles holidays was caused by several reasons, including married couples with different travel tastes wishing to embark on separate trips.
Approximately five million British holidaymakers are expected to take a solo trip in 2009 - a figure that has grown by five per cent over the last five years.
