Some continental Christmas market destinations can be significantly more expensive than others, new research shows.
Britons considering a winter holiday to a continental Christmas market destination should check costs beforehand, if the findings of a new study are anything to go by.
Research conducted by Virgin Money Travel Insurance shows that those heading to Prague to shop at its Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square markets could end up paying more than twice the price of a trip to Berlin, Budapest or Krakow.
The average cost of a three-day holiday to Prague - including accommodation, attraction entry fees and
travel insurance - comes to £482 per person, compared with £157 in Berlin, £142 in Budapest and £140 in Krakow.
Other relatively expensive destinations were found to include Lille, London and Copenhagen.
"Christmas is a time for giving but it doesn't have to be a case of giving money away. The cost of a trip to the continental Christmas markets can vary widely," commented Grant Bather of Virgin Money Travel Insurance.
According to Caxton FX, other popular Christmas market destinations include Graz in Austria, Cologne and Munich in Germany, and Basel in Switzerland.
