Cornwall theatre voted 'Best Day Out'
Readers of a newspaper have voted the Minack amphitheatre in Cornwall as Britain's Best Day Out.
The open-air theatre is situated on a cliff-edge overlooking the Atlantic Ocean four miles from Land's End and was voted for by thousands on the Daily Mail's travel website.
Malcolm Bell, of South West Tourism told the paper: "This truly is a wonderful and unique attraction in the south-west and a must-see for any visitor coming to the region - they are very worthy of this award."
In what the tabloid called the English tourist trade Oscars, the Romanesque performance space was only built in the 1930s by Derbyshire woman Rowena Cade.
The Minak - which means rocky place in Cornish - beat nine other nominations in the competition, including London, the Yorkshire Dales and an island off the coast of Northumberland called Lindisfarne.
Other popular attractions in Cornwall include the Eden Project, the island of St Michael's Mount and the Tate museum at St Ives.
