Cornwall is top pick for 'staycationing families' [JI unlimited]

The county is one of the best places to visit in the UK.

Many people in the UK will be looking to stay at home this year to holiday in a bid to save themselves a little bit of money on a tight budget. For those who are choosing to take this option, there will be many destinations which have attractions for all the family.

However, according to one travel expert, the best place for those with travel insurance to take their nearest and dearest is the south England county of Cornwall.

Freelance travel writer Linsey McNeill said that the county has many attractions, including its attractive surfing community and popular camping areas.

Due to it being a coastal county, Cornwall also offers a number of beaches, which Ms McNeill says really adds to the appeal for visitors.

"If it had reliable weather it would be one of the best places in the world for beach holidays," she added.

She also went on to say that Cornwall also had a cool factor, thanks to how popular it was for surfers, with Newquay being one of the most attractive places in the world for those who enjoy the sport.

Ms McNeill also said that other places will be popular this year around the UK, as there is an increase in the number of holidaymakers who look for something different to a standard continental break in Spain or similar countries.

"The Lake District is absolutely fantastic for family holidays. Wales is brilliant and is also becoming quite trendy – it's got the same sorts of things that Cornwall offers but for a lot of people it's not so far away."

A recent report from cottages4you  has also highlighted places such as Devon and Scotland as destinations where those holidaying in the UK will be looking to head this summer.
