Copenhagen will become the world's jazz capital when the festival gets underway next month, an industry expert has said.
Copenhagen is gearing up to take up its annual mantle of jazz capital of the world when the city's Jazz Festival gets underway next month.
The ten-day event - which kicks off on July 2nd - will play host to more than 1,000 concerts in 100 venues across the Danish capital and this year will feature performances from acts such as Alphabeat, Jamie Cullum and Spandau Ballet.
It is the largest jazz music festival in the world and has now been running for 32 years. The event offers an eclectic and varied mix of artists who play all forms of jazz, ranging from traditional New Orleans swing to more contemporary and experimental styles, such as fusion and bebop.
Anne Sofie Salling Rasmussen, press and event coordinator at Visit Denmark, has said that the festival is a must for all lovers of jazz as it offers the best array of talent in the genre, all within the beautiful setting of one of Europe's most scenic capital cities.
Visitors can also combine their time at the festival with sightseeing, Ms Rasmussen added.
"A stroll along Nyvahn [Copenhagen's harbour] looking across to the New Opera house and sipping coffee on the large deck terrace at the new Play House are all highlights," she said.
Meanwhile, figures from KLM and Air France released earlier this month show that Scandinavia is becoming an increasingly popular destination for holidaymakers, with many people visiting cities such as Stockholm, Oslo and Helsinki for weekend or extended breaks.
