Holidaymakers should check the level of medical cover they are entitled to before committing to purchase a travel insurance policy.
There are a number of things to consider when it comes to choosing the right
travel insurance cover, according to an industry expert.
Sean Tipton of ABTA - The Travel Association commented that some people think they are saving money if they do not purchase a policy in the first place, but pointed out that this will not be the case if an emergency - particularly a medical one - should occur.
Indeed, medical coverage is one of the most important parts of a policy to consider, he commented, especially if travel plans include destinations such as America - where it is recommended to have cover of up to £2 million.
He said: "It's unlikely you are going to need that but that's the point of insurance, you're covering yourself for the worst case scenario."
A recent poll carried out by simonseeks.com noted that many people who chose to remain in the UK on a "staycation" last year are set to travel further afield for a holiday overseas in 2010.
