Individuals have found themselves involved in more accidents due to the bad weather, it has been reported.
Winter travel misery has seen an increase of 23 per cent in claims on car insurance.
According to the AA, the ice and snow is playing havoc with vehicles as they try to navigate their way through the hazardous conditions. Traffic collisions are the most popular type of incident in the inclement weather, the group noted, as the cold snap continues to cause misery for commuters.
Simon Douglas, director of AA Insurance, said: "Trees, lamp posts, telegraph poles, barriers, bollards, grass embankments, walls, fences and hedges have ... all brought unfortunate drivers to an abrupt and chilly halt."
The one positive aspect of the problems is the majority of crashes have occurred at relatively low speeds because of the caution being exercised on the roads. "When there is widespread snow and ice, the proportion of claims where the icy conditions are a contributory factor increases significantly." Mr Douglas stated.
According to
Directgov, there is no further snow expected in the UK at this moment, but roads may still be affected by ice, especially if rain begins to fall.
The Met Office has issued flash warnings and advisories for the country.
As per usual, the AA has told those looking to avoid the travel chaos not to go any trips unless they are essential. If Britons do decide to take to the roads, they should ensure their tyres are properly inflated and they have sufficient tread to allow optimum control. Once up and running, aim for as high a high a gear as possible, but at a low speed.
