Those looking to visit in spring and summer can enjoy the culinary delights of the Windy City.
With Christmas out of the way, many people's thoughts will now turn to next year and the holidays they will be looking to head off on throughout spring and summer. Boxing day is traditionally seen as the busiest day for people to book holidays for the following year, as they look to blow away the cobwebs created by a stressful festive period.
For those travel insurance customers who enjoy taking in a taste of the local cuisine when they jet off on holidays, looking towards Chicago for spring and summer holidays can be an astute move.
Cathleen Domanico, executive director of tourism for the Chicago Convention and Tourism Bureau, believes that Chicago offers a unique dining experience, and a distinctive selection for people who love food.
"Chicago is known for it's dining – it's renowned for its famous hot dogs and deep dish pizzas. We also have the number one restaurant in North America, called the Alinea, which is also ranked in the top five in the world. It's a great dining destination, so people no longer think of it just for hot dogs and pizza. They come for our world class dining and gourmet food," she said.
Ms Domanico said that the best times to visit Chicago are spring and summer, as many restaurants take part in various schemes which can give holidaymakers discounts.
She said that Restaurant Week, which takes place in spring, sees the tourism board work with 200 eateries to offer substantial savings, allowing holidaymakers to sample many different cuisines.
And for those with a bit more cash to splash, Gormet Week in the summer can see them enjoy food from some of the best known chefs in the world at a particularly high end event.
