Channel Islands visitors told to check travel insurance
Those planning on visiting the Channel Islands later this year have been advised to ensure they have an adequate holiday insurance policy in place before they travel.
Steven Williams, Confused.com's head of travel insurance, was quoted by the Telegraph as saying people would be wrong to presume they are automatically covered in light of upcoming changes to policy conditions on the islands.
"Lots of people will assume they are covered, but this is not the case," he remarked.
"They need to make sure they have taken out an adequate insurance policy."
An agreement between Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney, Sark and Herm and the British mainland, that means visitors between the islands do not have to pay for treatment if they become ill, is set to expire at the end of March.
While the European Health Insurance Card does provide some cover, Chris Blackman of AllClear has warned that this cannot be relied on entirely, as expensive treatment and medical transport will still need to be paid for.
Even if you’re travelling within the UK, holiday insurance from Direct Travel Insurance is still a sensible purchase as the expense of dealing with issues on a holiday can be costly in any country.
