As money tightens, more people will opt for a traditional holiday on these shores.
With money worries becoming more and more prevalent as time passes, people who are still looking to get away from home for a little holiday with the family may opt to become one of an increasing number of caravan enthusiasts in the UK.
While it is more the norm these days to jet off to Spain or somewhere else warm for a break, those who are looking for a cheaper holiday when buying travel insurance are now staying in the UK more and more.
According to Jon Dale, public relations manager at the Camping and Caravanning Club, membership for the organisation is now higher than ever. He says it has grown consistently well over the past three years, a trend which the club does not expect to see changing any time soon, giving a boost in 2012.
Mr Dale says that the most popular destinations for those taking a caravanning holiday on British shores are the Lake District, the Peak District and the south-west of the country.
"Caravanning is certainly a popular pastime and in this current economic climate we envisage it will only continue to rise in popularity in 2012," said Mr Dale.
Some more adventurous caravan lovers are also now travelling to France to make use of camp facilities there, making it the most popular destination outside of the UK.
Earlier this week, the Institute of Advanced Motorists advised those who plan to tow caravans through difficult conditions that it is important to slow down and use brakes sparingly through the treacherous weather.
