Investing in a caravan could help some families enjoy a more environmentally-friendly holiday.
Holidaymakers concerned about the size of their carbon footprint may consider taking a caravanning trip, instead of boarding a flight abroad.
That is if comments from Marcus Dubois, editor of CaravanTimes.co.uk, are anything to go by. He explained that many enthusiasts "take pride" in their touring holiday option, which could be considered a lifestyle choice.
Investing in a caravan could actually increase the number of trips a family can take each year. Mr Dubois said: "Having one on the driveway is like a call to adventure."
He added that purchasing such a vehicle can be considered "a statement of intent" to travel more and prove a commitment to being eco-friendly.
What's more, his comments are backed up by research from Lancaster University, which states "an overnight stay by two guests in a touring caravan produces around four kilograms of carbon dioxide. This was compared with almost 500 kg of carbon dioxide for a return flight to Spain", according to Mr Dubois.
Some travellers may be concerned about the safety of towing such a vehicle on UK motorways - the AA has reassured such consumers that these roads are statistically among the safest in the country, despite the fact that some people avoid them altogether.
Travel insurance customers looking to buy a motorhome could see what is on offer at the Caravan Extravaganza 2010, which takes place in Cottingham, East Yorkshire, on September 4th and 5th.
People from all over the country are expected to visit the site where the latest models will be on display.
Children can be entertained by the funfair, playground and activities that have been arranged at the Lawns Centre and there are food stalls and ice cream stands for when they are in need of refreshment.
