Sofia in Bulgaria is one of the least expensive places to take a holiday, according to new research.
Holidaymakers looking for a cheap deal after buying their
travel insurance have been advised to consider Sofia in Bulgaria.
According to data compiled by Tesco, eastern Europe offers the least expensive destinations for getaways, with the Bulgarian city costing just £1,038 on average in total for a family of four going away for a week, including car hire.
Warsaw in Poland, Budapest in Hungary and Ljubljana in Slovenia were next in line as the cheapest places to go for such a break.
Reykavik in Iceland was named most expensive at £2,602.
A Tesco spokesperson reminded people to consider the total costs of a holiday and not just the price of travelling to get to the destination.
Popular sites to visit in Sofia include Popa, a small monument of Patriarh Evtimii, and Eagle's Bridge.
There are also educational institutions, such as New Bulgarian University and Sofia University.
In addition, the National Art Gallery and National Theatre offer cultural entertainment.
