Bulgaria offers superb value for money for summer vacations, an industry expert has said.
Eastern European holiday hotspots such as Croatia have long been popular with British holidaymakers seeking a Mediterranean-style break at a cheaper price.
The region offers similar weather conditions to its more upmarket counterparts such as Italy and is also now home to some of the continent's finest gastronomic hubs.
As well as lots of sun, excellent food and low prices, Eastern Europe also boasts some of the continent's finest and most impressive architecture and historical landmarks.
And factors such as these are the reason why Brits should consider visiting Bulgaria this
summer, Desislava Naydenova, of press and cultural affairs at the country's London embassy has said.
According to a recent study by Tesco Travel Money, prices in Bulgaria have dropped by almost one-quarter - 22 per cent - since this time last year and a typical family of four can now enjoy a week-long stay in the country for a total cost of just over £1,200.
By comparison, if the same family was looking to avoid any disruptions to their break and wanted to remain in Britain for their holiday, they would have to fork out around £1,000 more for a seven-night staycation in a seaside location such as Brighton.
"Bulgaria's rich cultural and historical heritage and natural beauty makes it an ideal destination for a wide variety of holidaymakers and travellers," said Ms Naydenova.
Holidaymakers thinking of visiting Bulgaria this
summer should take out
travel insurance before leaving home.
