Budget doesn't always mean best, holidaymakers told
Those travelling on holiday need to be aware that budget airlines do not always offer the best deals on flights, it has been claimed.
Sophie Butler wrote for the Telegraph that larger carriers like British Airways (BA) can still compete with their low-price counterparts and pointed out that there are often hidden costs when it comes to budget airlines, such as baggage checking in fees.
"It's so important not to be fooled into thinking that it's always the charter carriers or the so-called low-cost airlines which offer the best deals," she remarked.
Checking how much a return fare to Majorca would cost for the week starting May 4th, Ms Butler found that while budget carriers Ryanair and easyJet offer cheaper prices than BA, once luggage allowances are factored in, they are actually more expensive.
Last month, the journalist offered ten tips for purchasing travel insurance and recommended that consumers always consult a specialist, such as Direct Travel Insurance, before buying anything.
