Head to continental Europe.
While winter is a popular time for the winter lovers amongst us, with many people opting to head off to the likes of France, Austria and even as far afield as the USA to meet the snow on the slopes and indulge in a spot of cold weather sports like skiing, for many people, escaping the cold of a British winter means looking for a much sunnier climate.
According to Eric Hutchens, general manager of Holidays By Rail, the best way to enjoy the winter sun and make it feel like the gloomy British weather is a thing of the past is by jetting off with the family to the popular areas of mainland Europe.
Some of the most popular destinations for families to visit during the summer holidays can also be the best places to fly to when the weather turns nippy back home, with many travel insurance customers looking to partake in festive breaks to Spain, France, and Italy.
ABTA recently reported that some 4.25 million Brits will leave the country over the festive period, either to spend it with loved ones elsewhere, or to enjoy Christmas with a difference, and while skiing is popular, many still prefer the sun, sea and sand.
While these places can still be warm though, Mr Hutchens says that conditions can be altogether more temperate, and far better for those looking to stay comfortable, as well as being a lot quieter.
"Our winter holidays in Italy are always very popular as is Spain and the south of France. The weather is more temperate than in the summer and allows for more walking and sightseeing without the usual thousands of fellow travellers."
