Brits 'more aware of benefits of travel insurance'
People in the UK are becoming more and more aware of the benefits and importance of taking out a travel insurance policy, a new report has suggested.
Enquiries for travel insurance have increased by 63 per cent compared to the same time in 2008, according to figures from Confused.com.
Steve Williams, head of travel insurance at the company, put the rise in awareness down to factors such as the high-profile situation with swine flu.
"It's clear that consumers are becoming more aware of the benefits and peace of mind travel insurance can bring," he added.
The firm is expecting interest in travel insurance to increase even more as the summer progresses and across the industry as a whole, a trend towards single trip insurance over annual insurance has emerged in 2009.
Mr Williams went on to say that travel insurance was a "must-have" holiday item, but "it makes little sense" to purchase a policy from a travel agent which may charge more than necessary.
Figures from Axa published in May stated that on average, the cost of a medical claim on a travel insurance policy stood at £744 and for claims in the USA this figure rises to £1,702.
