Holidaymakers are increasingly choosing alternatives to their first choice destination in order to save cash, according to the Post Office.
Many Britons are looking to save money by opting for alternatives to their first choice holiday destinations, new research has revealed.
A study by Post Office Travel Money shows that while 77 per cent of holidaymakers will spend as much time on their getaways this year as they did in 2009, many of these will fit this plan into their budgets by switching to cheaper destinations.
Examples offered by the Post Office include the potential to save up to £530 per person and gain an extra four days holiday time by switching from a ten-day break in the Maldives to two weeks in Thailand.
However, the organisation warned holidaymakers that they should not neglect to take out
travel insurance when cutting the cost of their getaways.
"Although people are prepared to fly with budget airlines and stay in less expensive hotels, we're urging people not to cut corners on their travel essentials," remarked Sarah Munro, head of Post Office Travel Services.
Earlier this week, figures from First Rate Exchange Services revealed that 22 million Britons look set to visit the eurozone this year thanks to lower holiday costs.
