Gap year travellers looking to make a difference while abroad might want to take advantage of one of Brazil's volunteering opportunities.
Holidaymakers looking to combine their break with a stint of volunteering may do well to head to Brazil.
According to tour operator Sunvil Traveller, the country has many opportunities for those who want to take part in volunteering schemes - something that may be particularly attractive to people taking a gap year abroad.
Visitors can engage in projects such as teaching children, construction, environmental schemes, wildlife conservation and community initiatives, explains Lisa Rudkin of Sunvil Traveller.
"For those who wish to be more active in volunteering, there are many projects in the country," she comments.
Gap year travel insurance may be a good idea for those looking to volunteer while abroad on a break from study or work.
Last year, a survey by Travelex found that three-quarters of Britons who lost their jobs as a result of the recession are looking into taking a gap year before finding further employment.
