Bosnia and Herzegovina 'is a cheaper alternative to western Europe'
Offering all the delights of any other western European destination but for a smaller cost, Bosnia and Herzegovina is returning as a popular tourist destination, according to a flight comparison website.
"The time has come to start exploring this fascinating and rewarding country again and giving it the attention it deserves," wrote Skyscanner.com.
According to Bosnia and Herzegovina Tourism, the capital city Sarajevo is home to "some of the most cutting edge festivals in south-east Europe", including the film festival that takes place in August and the jazz festival in November.
The country has a lot to offer active tourists - with ski resorts that hosted the 1984 Winter Olympics and the Sutjeska national park that presents hikers with the challenge of climbing to the country's highest peak.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office recommends all travel policies taken out by holidaymakers heading to Bosnia and Herzegovina cover them for evacuation by air ambulance.
