An industry expert has said that the south of France is still a popular tourist hub for Brits.
The south of France has long been a favoured retreat for British holidaymakers - and the city of Bordeaux continues to act as a magnet for UK travellers this
summer, an industry expert has said.
According to Apolline Belondrade, spokesperson for Bordeaux Tourisme, the city's wide range of cultural delights mean that it has remained a big draw for visitors over the last few years.
"British tourists are often appealed to Bordeaux for its famous wines and gastronomy but also for its popular golf and spas," she said.
Searches for European destinations have risen sharply over the past weeks as Brits look to take advantage of the weak euro in comparison to the pound caused by the ongoing eurozone fiscal crisis.
The fact that airspace across the continent is beginning to return to normal following the disruption caused by the Icelandic volcanic ash cloud earlier this year has also contributed to an upturn in the amount of people seeking to go abroad.
And Bordeaux has been one of the primary beneficiaries of this trend, with Hotels.com reporting that searches for trips to the French city have increased by up to 100 per cent in comparison to this time last year.
Meanwhile the trivago's hotel price index, costs across the continent have now dropped for the first time for in 2010, with the average cost of a double room across Europe now being at £97 per night.
Ms Belondrade added that any trip to Bordeaux is not complete without sampling the city's famous oysters.
"For the freshest ones in nice and simple surroundings, don't hesitate to go to the centre of the city," she noted.
