Belize has many cultural spots to visit, a tourism official explains.
British tourists keen to soak up some culture during their holidays could consider a break to Belize.
Yanick Dalhouse, director of marketing for the Belize Tourism Board, explains the spot "is a prime destination for British travellers interested in visiting ancient Maya sites and temples".
It is a particularly good time to head to the nation, as the end of the Long Count calendar is approaching in 2012, which plays a key role in the country's culture and traditions.
Those who like to be part of group excursions can find plenty on offer in Belize and Ms Dalhouse explains this gives an in-depth insight into the sights.
While it is possible to do independent exploration, the tourism official advises against it if you want to learn as much as possible about Maya culture, history and the ancient ruins.
The central-American destination is the area's only English-speaking country, which may make it attractive to those who want to be able to get by easily while abroad.
Ms Dalhouse also tells travel insurance policyholders and others that Belize is relatively affordable, as there is a favourable exchange rate and plenty of deals to be had on hotels and attractions.
The well-known Blue Hole may be a must-see for nature fans, as it is the only jaguar reserve in the world and could therefore offer a unique insight into the intriguing creatures.
This, teamed with many other natural wonders, "makes Belize a premier getaway that is easy, budget-friendly and refreshingly authentic and unique", Ms Dalhouse adds.
