An expert has suggested trying to explore as much of the South American country as possible.
Trying to cram everything into one holiday is not usually recommended by experts, but one has gone against the grain to suggest travellers see as much of Chile as possible during their stay.
Sarah Bradley, chairman of the Latin American Travel Association, said the public transport infrastructure and services on domestic flights are so good that getting around is not a problem.
Bus journeys could be an efficient way to explore, according to the official, particularly over large distances if passengers are comfortable remaining on the vehicle for long periods of time.
"You'll want to see all of it ... it's not an overly challenging place in which to travel and it's secure, safe and people are welcoming - generally warm, hospitable and friendly," she explained.
People with backpacker insurance might be particularly drawn to the region, which boasts mountainous terrain, as well as vineyards, dry desert landscapes, snowy peaks and glaciers.
Ms Bradley pointed out that Santiago is a cosmopolitan city where there are plenty of restaurants and bars to keep social butterflies entertained - and it could prove a great central location from which to explore the Atacama Desert further north and the wine-growing region nearby in the south.
However, they could do well to make reservations for accommodation soon, as information released by STR Global has revealed the occupancy rates in Santiago have increased by 17.1 per cent during September this year rising to a total of 66.6 per cent of available rooms booked during that month.
