The airline is hoping to resume its operations in time for Christmas
British Airways (BA) is attempting to resolve the travel chaos caused by the recent snow in time for Christmas Day.
The airline has suffered from five days of disruption, after flights from Heathrow airport were cancelled due to the hazardous climes.
All runways at the country's largest airport were closed for the majority of last weekend (December 18th and 19th), with travellers forced to look for other ways to get to their destinations or wait for further information.
But BA has now revealed it aims to operate its full long-haul departure schedule from Heathrow today (December 23rd) and tomorrow.
The airline's chief executive Willie Walsh said: "I am very sorry for all the disruption and inconvenience that our customers have faced around the world in the past few days."
He said employees are working "around the clock" to make sure customers get to their chosen destination by Christmas, explaining that some 17,000 rosters are in place at this time of year, which tends to be complex and difficult to organise.
Mr Walsh likened this to a "giant global jigsaw puzzle", adding efforts are now being made to try and put everything in place after the recent disruption.
BA has cancelled more than 2,000 flights from the past week as a result of Heathrow's closure.
Colin Matthews - chief executive of
BAA, which operates the airport - yesterday claimed he would forego his annual bonus, thought to be worth hundreds of thousands of pounds, due to the travel chaos that has been seen over the past week.
