An increasing number of couples are heading to the island of Aruba to get married, it has been claimed.
Many Britons are flocking to Aruba to get hitched, figures suggest.
According to statistics from Thomson and First Choice cited by the Aruba Tourism Authority (ATA), the number of wedding packages booked on the Dutch-Caribbean island for 2010 has more than doubled compared with those for this year.
The scenic island offers attractions and sights such as beautiful sunsets, high-quality beaches and a year-round temperate climate, the ATA says, with couples normally choosing to hold a civil ceremony in the morning before having a blessing on the beach or in one of Aruba's resorts and hotels.
"Aruba is really capturing the imagination of couples looking for a romantic, sun-drenched destination for the wedding of their dreams, with the island's powder white sand beaches and turquoise shores providing the ideal setting," remarked Joanna Walding, UK director for the ATA.
Engaged couples are normally advised to take out wedding insurance for their big day - and if getting married abroad,
travel insurance may also be a good idea.
Last year, research by Mintel indicated one in six British weddings now take place overseas.
